ABOUT US

The Helping Angels was initially formed as something similar to “The Red Cross,” but was then changed due to various reasons. The Helping Angels feel compelled to help others in need as we want to improve San Bernardino’s community. We thought to create ways to assist those vulnerable in these desperate times as ignoring those in the streets felt wrong. We felt like just ignoring others in such a situation would be immoral. We didn’t like seeing people sleep in the streets, in the park, beg for money, beg for food, wear ripped up clothing in the cold times, etc. Those awful, awful things are what inspired us to create, what is now known as, The Helping Angels.

What is homelessness?

*Homelessness is a situation in which people do not have a permanent place of which to call home, they sleep in emergency locations, or they rest in places not for human habitation.

-Some examples of the locations include abandoned buildings, cars, park benches, all-night shops, or just outside in general. Some are even seen sleeping right on the sidewalks of the streets.

What causes homelessness?

*Homelessness is caused by a variety of different reasons.        -Some of said reasons include domestic violence, destruction of property, low income and high payment demand, poverty, lack of affordable housing, job loss, lack of health care, mental illness, substance abuse (e.g drugs, alcohol etc).

Who is predicted to be at risk?

*Although America in general is seen as having a major increase in homelessness, there are some specific individuals out there who are deemed as having a higher risk than others at becoming homeless.

*The individuals considered having the highest risk include veterans, people with disabilities, single parent families, those recently freed from jail, and young adults released from foster care.

Facts

*The homeless are discriminated in society based off of appearances.

*Think of it this way, you’ve probably already witness such actions. You have most likely seen how the homeless are kicked out of restaurants, shops, stores etc because of their dirty appearance.
